Jyothika Saravanan (née Sadanah), born on October 18, 1978, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is an Indian actress and film producer known for her extensive work in Tamil cinema, as well as notable performances in Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi films. She is the daughter of film producer Chander Sadanah and Seema Sadanah. Her half-sister, Nagma, is also a renowned actress.
Jyothika completed her schooling at Learners Academy in Mumbai and graduated in Psychology from Mithibai College. She made her acting debut in the Hindi film “Doli Saja Ke Rakhna” (1998), directed by Priyadarshan. She then ventured into Tamil cinema with a guest appearance in “Vaali” (1999) and secured her first lead role in “Poovellam Kettuppar” (1999), co-starring Suriya.
Over her career, Jyothika has delivered several critically acclaimed performances in films such as “Kushi” (2000), “Perazhagan” (2004), “Chandramukhi” (2005), and “Mozhi” (2007). Her portrayal in “Chandramukhi” earned her the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress.
After a brief hiatus post-2010, Jyothika made a successful comeback with “36 Vayadhinile” (2015), a Tamil remake of the Malayalam film “How Old Are You?”. She continued to take on strong roles in women-centric films like “Magalir Mattum” (2017), “Naachiyaar” (2018), and “Raatchasi” (2019).
In her personal life, Jyothika married actor Suriya on September 11, 2006. The couple has two children: a daughter, Diya, born in 2007, and a son, Dev, born in 2010.
Jyothika‘s contributions to Indian cinema have been recognized with numerous accolades, including a National Film Award, five Filmfare Awards South, and the prestigious Kalaimamani Award.
